Evolution of Android OS
โObviously, you will always see more malware targeting Android because Android is used more than any smartphone platform by a pretty substantial difference.โ
– Sundar Pichai โ
Since its first release, Android has undergone various functional, philosophical, and graphical changes. While Google’s mobile operating system wasn’t exceptional at first, it has significantly improved over time. Android is now the most widely used platform for mobile apps, powering not only smartphones and tablets but also wearable s, cars, smart TVs, and other devices. Today, Android stands as the most popular mobile operating system globally, having surpassed and outlasted competitors like Symbian, BlackBerry, Palm OS, webOS, and Windows Phone. The only platform that can compete with Android on a meaningful level is Apple’s iOS, and this competitive landscape doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
While working for Google, Irina Blok designed the now-famous Android OS logo, resembling a cross between a robot and a green insect. Blok claims that the only instruction she received from the Google design team was to make the logo look like a robot.
